Portiuncula University Hospital is seeking an experienced Clinical Nurse Manager 2 to lead and coordinate nursing services within the Acute Medical Assessment Unit (AMAU) and Emergency Department. This is a permanent wholetime opportunity within HSE West and North West for a nurse with strong acute medical and emergency nursing expertise.
The Clinical Nurse Manager 2 Galway role offers the opportunity to lead high-performing teams in a fast-paced acute setting while contributing to safe, patient-centred care delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide clinical leadership and operational management within the Acute Medical Assessment Unit and Emergency Department.
- Ensure the delivery of high-quality, safe, and evidence-based nursing care.
- Support and supervise nursing staff, promoting professional development and best practice standards.
- Coordinate patient flow and resource allocation in a busy acute environment.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to optimise patient outcomes.
- Monitor compliance with HSE policies, HIQA standards, and clinical governance frameworks.
- Participate in audit, quality improvement initiatives, and service development planning.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Registered General Nurse on the active register maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).
- Minimum of 5 years post-registration experience, including significant experience in Acute Medical Assessment Unit, Acute Medicine, or Emergency Nursing.
- Demonstrated depth and breadth of acute nursing management experience relevant to the role.
- Proven leadership, organisational, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage complex clinical situations in a high-pressure environment.
- Commitment to continuous professional development and quality improvement.
Salary, Benefits & Working Hours
- Grade: Clinical Nurse Manager 2 (Grade Code 2119).
- Salary Scale (effective 1 August 2025): €61,463 – €77,666 (LSI) in line with HSE consolidated pay scales :contentReference[oaicite:0]{index=0}.
