The Epidemiologist role within the Department of Public Health, Dublin and Midlands, offers an opportunity to contribute to population health surveillance, research, and evidence-based public health interventions. This permanent whole-time post supports regional public health priorities across Dublin, Kildare, Wicklow, Laois, Offaly, Longford, Westmeath, and parts of Dublin South.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and support epidemiological investigations and surveillance activities.
  • Analyse and interpret complex health data to inform public health policy and practice.
  • Provide expert advice on communicable and non-communicable disease trends.
  • Develop reports, publications, and presentations for stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary public health and healthcare teams.
  • Contribute to outbreak management and emergency response planning.
  • Support research initiatives and service improvement projects.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Relevant postgraduate qualification in Epidemiology, Public Health, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience in epidemiological research and data analysis.
  • Strong statistical and analytical skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Eligibility to work in Ireland.

  • Salary aligned with HSE Grade 3110 – Epidemiologist pay scale in accordance with the Consolidated Salary Scales (effective 1 August 2025) :contentReference[oaicite:0]{index=0}.

Location & Employer Information

There is currently one permanent whole-time vacancy in the Department of Public Health – HSE Dublin and Midlands. The role will be based at either Dr Steevens’ Hospital, Dublin 8 (D08 W2A8) or the Area Office, Arden Road, Tullamore, Co Offaly (R35 TY28). The exact location will be determined at offer stage.

A panel may be formed from this campaign for current and future permanent or specified purpose vacancies (full-time or part-time) within the Dublin and Midlands Regional Health Area.
