Job Overview

The Chef II Older Person Services role offers an excellent opportunity to join Community Hospitals within HSE West and North West. This position plays a vital role in delivering high-quality, nutritious meals to older persons in a healthcare setting.

This Chef II Older Person Services position is open to both HSE and non-HSE applicants and offers permanent and specified purpose contracts in part-time and wholetime capacities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, cook and present meals in line with dietary requirements and healthcare standards.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene, and HACCP regulations.
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness and organisation within the kitchen.
  • Supervise and support kitchen staff as required.
  • Assist in menu planning in collaboration with catering management and clinical teams.
  • Monitor stock levels and ensure proper food storage procedures.
  • Adhere to HSE policies, procedures, and quality standards.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Completion of a Primary Food Hygiene Course.
  • Successful completion of, or willingness to undertake, a Management of Food Hygiene Course.
  • Successful completion of, or willingness to undertake, IDDSI Training.
  • Experience working in a professional kitchen environment, ideally within healthcare or large-scale catering.
  • Strong knowledge of food safety standards and best practice.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

If the successful candidate has not completed the required additional courses, training will be provided and must be undertaken.

Salary, Benefits & Working Hours

  • Salary aligned with the February 2026 HSE Consolidated Salary Scales for Chef II (General Support Grade 4529) in accordance with Department of Health Circular 1/2025.

Location & Employer Information

This post is located within Community Services (Community Hospitals) across Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal under HSE West and North West. A panel will be formed from this campaign to fill current and future permanent and specified purpose vacancies of full or part-time duration.
