Job Overview

The Grade VII Safety and Emergency Manager Kilkenny role offers an exciting leadership opportunity within St. Luke’s General Hospital, Kilkenny. The successful candidate will lead on safety governance, emergency planning, and compliance initiatives, supporting operational resilience and patient safety within a dynamic acute hospital environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage safety, risk, and emergency planning programmes across the hospital.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor health and safety policies in line with national standards and HSE guidelines.
  • Coordinate emergency preparedness planning, including major incident and business continuity plans.
  • Conduct risk assessments, audits, and compliance reviews.
  • Provide expert advice to senior management on safety legislation and regulatory requirements.
  • Deliver training and awareness programmes to promote a culture of safety.
  • Liaise with internal departments and external agencies on safety and emergency management matters.
  • Prepare reports, performance metrics, and compliance documentation as required.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Relevant third-level qualification in Health & Safety, Risk Management, Emergency Management, or a related discipline.
  • Significant experience in a safety, risk, or emergency management role.
  • Strong knowledge of Irish health and safety legislation and compliance standards.
  • Experience in policy development, audit processes, and governance reporting.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a complex healthcare environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.

Salary, Benefits & Working Hours

  • Grade VII salary scale in line with February 2026 HSE Consolidated Pay Scales.
  • Annual salary range: €58,251 – €70,800 (dependent on point of scale and service).
  • Specified Purpose, Wholetime contract.
