Job Overview
The Medical Scientist Staff Grade Microbiology Donegal role offers an excellent opportunity to join the Pathology Department at Letterkenny University Hospital. This permanent wholetime position within the HSE West and North West region plays a vital role in delivering high-quality microbiology laboratory services that directly support patient diagnosis and treatment.
Working as part of a multidisciplinary laboratory team, the successful candidate will contribute to accurate, timely, and reliable microbiological testing in a busy acute hospital environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine and specialised microbiological testing in accordance with laboratory protocols.
- Process, analyse and interpret laboratory samples using approved methodologies and equipment.
- Maintain high standards of quality control and participate in quality assurance programmes.
- Ensure compliance with laboratory accreditation standards and HSE policies.
- Contribute to the development, implementation, and review of laboratory procedures.
- Maintain accurate laboratory records and ensure timely reporting of results.
- Participate in service improvement initiatives and continuous professional development.
- Support training and supervision of junior staff and students where required.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Be registered, or be eligible for registration, with CORU as a Medical Scientist.
- Hold a recognised qualification in Medical Laboratory Science or an equivalent relevant qualification.
- Demonstrate experience in a microbiology laboratory setting.
- Possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Show excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality standards.
- Demonstrate effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Have the ability to work independently and manage workload efficiently.
