Job Overview
The General Porter is responsible for providing a professional portering service across University Hospital Waterford. This includes patient transfers, transportation of clinical materials, and supporting hospital departments to ensure the smooth day-to-day functioning of the facility.
Key Responsibilities
- Transport patients safely and respectfully throughout the hospital.
- Move equipment, medical supplies, and materials as required.
- Assist clinical staff with non-clinical support duties.
- Ensure safe handling and transfer of items in line with hospital protocols.
- Maintain high standards of hygiene and infection control awareness.
- Respond promptly to porter requests across departments.
- Support emergency procedures where required.
- Provide courteous and professional assistance to patients, visitors, and staff.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Previous experience in a healthcare or portering environment is desirable.
- Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Good physical fitness to meet the manual handling demands of the role.
- Understanding of health and safety procedures.
- Flexibility to work shifts as required.
