Job Overview
This Medical Scientist Staff Grade (Histopathology) position at Mayo University Hospital offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to high-quality diagnostic services within a dynamic acute hospital setting. As part of the HSE West and North West region, the successful candidate will play a vital role in supporting clinical teams through accurate laboratory analysis and professional expertise.
This permanent wholetime post is open to both HSE and non-HSE applicants and provides the opportunity to further develop specialist experience in histopathology within a supportive and progressive laboratory environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine and specialised histopathology laboratory investigations in accordance with departmental protocols.
- Ensure accurate processing, analysis and reporting of specimens.
- Maintain high standards of quality control, quality assurance and laboratory safety.
- Participate in the development, implementation and review of laboratory procedures.
- Contribute to service improvement initiatives and accreditation processes.
- Supervise and support junior staff, students and trainees as required.
- Maintain accurate laboratory records and comply with data protection requirements.
- Engage in continuing professional development relevant to the role.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Registration as a Medical Scientist with CORU or eligibility for registration.
- Recognised qualification in Medical Science or equivalent as approved by CORU.
- Demonstrated depth and breadth of experience in histopathology relevant to the role.
- Strong analytical and technical laboratory skills.
- Excellent organisational, communication and teamwork abilities.
- Commitment to maintaining professional standards and quality patient care.
