The Consultant Haematologist Midlands post offers an exceptional opportunity to lead and shape clinical and laboratory haematology services across the Midlands region. This permanent wholetime role spans Midlands Regional Hospital Tullamore, Mullingar, and Portlaoise, delivering high-impact specialist care within a dynamic acute hospital network.
You will play a pivotal leadership role in advancing patient outcomes, strengthening laboratory excellence, and contributing to regional service development within a progressive healthcare environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive clinical and laboratory haematology services across designated Midlands hospitals
- Lead the diagnosis, treatment, and management of complex haematological conditions
- Oversee laboratory standards, quality assurance, and governance in haematology services
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and contribute to integrated patient care pathways
- Support service planning, clinical audit, and continuous quality improvement initiatives
- Supervise and mentor NCHDs and junior medical staff
- Engage in teaching, research, and professional development activities
- Contribute to on-call rotas and emergency haematology services as required
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Full registration on the Specialist Division of the Medical Council of Ireland (Haematology)
- Relevant postgraduate qualifications in Clinical and Laboratory Haematology
- Demonstrated experience in both clinical and laboratory haematology practice
- Strong leadership, governance, and service development capabilities
- Excellent communication and multidisciplinary collaboration skills
- Commitment to audit, quality improvement, and patient safety standards
Salary, Benefits & Working Hours
- Salary aligned with HSE Consultant salary scales (February 2026 consolidated scales)
- Permanent Wholetime contract
- Working hours: 24 hours per week at Midlands Regional Hospital Tullamore, 6.5 hours at Midlands Regional Hospital Mullingar, and 6.5 hours at Midlands Regional Hospital Portlaoise
