Job Overview

The Clinical Nurse Specialist Cork University Hospital role offers an excellent opportunity to develop specialist expertise in Acute Haematology Oncology within a leading tertiary hospital setting. Based at Cork University Hospital, this permanent wholetime post supports high-quality, patient-centred care within a dynamic multidisciplinary team.

This position is open to both HSE and non-HSE applicants and provides a structured pathway towards full Clinical Nurse Specialist accreditation in an acute specialist service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide specialist nursing care to patients with acute haematological and oncology conditions.
  • Support assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of individualised care plans.
  • Act as a clinical resource for nursing colleagues and multidisciplinary team members.
  • Participate in patient and family education relating to diagnosis, treatment and symptom management.
  • Contribute to service development, quality improvement initiatives and evidence-based practice.
  • Maintain accurate documentation in line with professional and organisational standards.
  • Support audit, research activities and ongoing professional development within the service.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Registered General Nurse with active registration on the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).
  • Relevant post-registration experience in acute nursing, ideally within haematology or oncology services.
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional development and specialist practice.
  • Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team environment.

Salary, Benefits & Working Hours

  • Grade: Clinical Nurse Specialist Candidate (General) 2697.
  • Salary: In line with February 2026 HSE consolidated pay scales and Department of Health Circular 1/2025.
  • Contract Type: Permanent Wholetime.
  • Public sector pension scheme and incremental salary progression.
  • Annual leave and public holiday entitlements in accordance with HSE policy.
