Key Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality personal care to patients in line with individual care plans
- Assist nursing staff in delivering holistic palliative care services
- Support patients with mobility, hygiene, and daily living activities
- Monitor and report changes in patient condition to nursing staff
- Maintain a clean, safe, and comfortable environment for patients
- Engage respectfully with patients, families, and the wider care team
- Adhere to infection control, health and safety, and safeguarding policies
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Relevant Healthcare Assistant qualification (e.g., QQI Level 5 or equivalent)
- Previous experience in a healthcare or care support setting is desirable
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Compassionate approach with a strong commitment to patient dignity
- Understanding of infection prevention and control practices
- Flexibility to work varied shifts as required
Salary, Benefits & Working Hours
Salary scale: €36,288 – €45,484 per annum (based on experience and incremental scale). This is a permanent wholetime position within the public health service, offering access to HSE benefits including pension scheme, annual leave entitlement, and ongoing training and development opportunities. Working hours will be in line with HSE requirements and may include shift work.
Location & Employer Information
This position is based at University Hospital Kerry, operating within the Kerry Specialist Palliative Care Service under HSE South West. The service provides specialist palliative care to patients with complex needs, focusing on quality of life, comfort, and holistic support. You will join a dedicated team serving the Kerry region.
