Job Overview

The Clinical Nurse Manager 2 – Bed Manager will coordinate and oversee bed management processes to support patient admissions, discharges, and transfers throughout Cork University Hospital. The successful candidate will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to optimise patient flow, improve service efficiency, and maintain high standards of patient care and operational performance.

This role requires strong clinical leadership, excellent communication skills, and the ability to make informed decisions within a dynamic acute hospital setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate hospital bed management activities to support safe and timely patient care.
  • Monitor patient flow across departments and assist with admission and discharge planning.
  • Collaborate with nursing, medical, and operational teams to optimise capacity management.
  • Provide clinical leadership and operational support within the hospital environment.
  • Support effective communication between wards, departments, and senior management teams.
  • Ensure compliance with HSE policies, procedures, and patient safety standards.
  • Participate in service improvement initiatives and operational planning activities.
  • Assist in maintaining efficient utilisation of hospital resources and patient pathways.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Registered General Nurse with active registration on the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).
  • Relevant experience within an acute hospital environment.
  • Previous nursing management or supervisory experience is highly desirable.
  • Strong organisational, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced healthcare setting.
  • Experience in patient flow management or operational coordination is advantageous.
  • Commitment to delivering high-quality patient-centred care.
  • Excellent decision-making and problem-solving abilities.

Salary, Benefits & Working Hours

Salary will be aligned with the HSE Clinical Nurse Manager 2 pay scale and public sector terms and conditions. This role is available on both Permanent Wholetime and Specified Purpose Wholetime contracts.

Working hours will be based on operational requirements within Cork University Hospital.
