Job Overview
The successful candidate will provide specialist nursing expertise within the Renal Dialysis Service at Sligo University Hospital. Working within the HSE West and North West health region, the Clinical Nurse Specialist will help enhance patient outcomes while supporting service development, patient education, and quality improvement initiatives across renal care services.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver specialist nursing care to patients receiving renal dialysis treatment
- Provide clinical leadership and support within the renal dialysis service
- Monitor and assess patients undergoing haemodialysis and related treatments
- Support patient education and promote self-management strategies where appropriate
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to coordinate patient care plans
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation and uphold HSE quality standards
- Participate in service development, audit, and continuous quality improvement initiatives
- Promote evidence-based practice and support staff development within renal nursing services
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Registered General Nurse with active NMBI registration
- Significant post-registration nursing experience in Renal Care relevant to the role
- Demonstrated depth and breadth of specialist renal dialysis nursing experience
- Strong clinical assessment and patient management skills
- Excellent communication and multidisciplinary teamwork abilities
- Commitment to high standards of patient-centred care and clinical governance
- Ability to support education, mentorship, and service improvement initiatives
- Experience working within acute hospital or specialist renal settings is desirable
