About the Role
This Specified Purpose Wholetime post is designed to prepare the successful candidate for registration as an Advanced Midwife Practitioner (AMP) with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI). Working within the Birth Reflections and Social Inclusion service at CUMH, the postholder will combine advanced clinical practice, education, research, and leadership to deliver woman-centred care to those with complex psychosocial needs and to women seeking to debrief and process their birth experiences.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver an advanced midwifery service for Birth Reflections and Social Inclusion at CUMH.
- Provide expert clinical care to women with complex social, psychological, and obstetric needs, including those affected by addiction, homelessness, mental health concerns, or previous traumatic birth experiences.
- Lead structured Birth Reflections consultations, supporting women to process and understand their birth journeys.
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams across maternity, mental health, social work, and community services.
- Contribute to service development, audit, quality improvement, and evidence-based practice.
- Provide education, mentorship, and clinical leadership to midwifery colleagues and student midwives.
- Complete the academic and clinical requirements for registration as an Advanced Midwife Practitioner with NMBI.
Requirements
- Current registration in the Midwives Division of the Register maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).
- A minimum of seven years post-registration experience, with at least five years’ recent experience in the relevant specialist area.
- Evidence of continuing professional development relevant to advanced practice.
- Eligibility to enrol on, or evidence of completion of, an accredited Master’s-level programme leading to registration as an Advanced Midwife Practitioner.
- Demonstrated clinical leadership, communication, and decision-making capability.
- Commitment to woman-centred, trauma-informed, and inclusive care.

Salary
€71,432 – €80,671 per annum (HSE Advanced Midwife Practitioner, Candidate scale, 6-point scale), based on the HSE Consolidated Salary Scales effective 1 February 2026.
