Key Responsibilities

  • Provide effective day-to-day management and clinical leadership of the Delivery Suite, ensuring safe, high-quality, woman-centred midwifery care.
  • Support, supervise, and develop midwifery staff, promoting a culture of continuous professional development and reflective practice.
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team — including obstetricians, anaesthetists, neonatologists, and allied health professionals — to deliver integrated, evidence-based maternity care.
  • Monitor and audit clinical outcomes, implementing quality improvement initiatives in line with national and local maternity strategy.
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, professional standards, and statutory requirements across the Delivery Suite.
  • Contribute to workforce planning, rostering, and resource management within the maternity unit.
  • Act as a visible, accessible, and positive role model for midwifery staff and students.

Requirements

Candidates must meet the requirements for the Clinical Midwife Manager 2 grade as specified in the HSE’s eligibility criteria, including registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) and a demonstrated depth and breadth of midwifery experience relevant to the role.

  • Current, active registration on the Midwives Division of the NMBI register.
  • Demonstrable depth and breadth of midwifery experience relevant to a senior management role in a delivery suite or comparable acute maternity setting.
  • Evidence of strong leadership, communication, and team management skills.
  • Commitment to delivering safe, compassionate, evidence-based maternity care.

Salary & Contract

This is a permanent whole-time post. Salary is aligned to the HSE Clinical Midwife Manager 2 scale (Grade 2132), based on the HSE Consolidated Salary Scales effective 1 February 2026:
