Cork University Hospital is recruiting an Advanced Nurse Practitioner, Candidate (Paediatrics) on a permanent, whole-time basis. This is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced nurse to advance into a specialist ANP role at one of Ireland’s leading acute hospitals, delivering high-impact, evidence-based care to paediatric patients across HSE South West.
Role Overview
The Advanced Nurse Practitioner, Candidate (ANP-C) role is a structured development pathway towards full registration as an ANP. Working within the Paediatrics service at Cork University Hospital, the successful candidate will function at an advanced level of nursing practice, developing the competencies required for autonomous, specialist clinical practice under the framework set by NMBI.
This post is open to both HSE and non-HSE applicants.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide advanced clinical assessment, diagnosis, and management for paediatric patients within an agreed scope of practice.
- Develop and demonstrate the four pillars of advanced practice: clinical practice, education, research, and leadership.
- Work towards the competency requirements for registration as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner with NMBI.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe, high-quality, patient-centred care.
- Contribute to service development, quality improvement, and evidence-based practice within the Paediatrics department.
- Maintain accurate records and uphold professional, regulatory, and organisational standards at all times.
Requirements
- Be registered, or eligible to be registered, in the Children’s or General Division of the Register of Nurses maintained by NMBI.
- Have the clinical, managerial, and administrative capacity to properly discharge the duties of the role.
- Meet the eligibility criteria for the ANP Candidate programme as set out in the Job Specification for post CUHN97346.
- Demonstrate relevant post-registration clinical experience appropriate to the specialty.

Salary & Contract
This is a permanent, whole-time post. The salary scale for this role is:
€71,432 – €80,671 per annum (HSE Advanced Nurse Practitioner, Candidate (General) scale, 6-point scale), based on the HSE Consolidated Salary Scales effective 1 February 2026.
Placement on the scale is subject to relevant experience and HSE pay policy.
