University Hospital Kerry is recruiting a Staff Midwife to join its Nursing and Midwifery team in Tralee, Co. Kerry. This is an excellent opportunity for a registered midwife to build a rewarding career in a busy acute hospital serving the people of Kerry and the wider HSE South West region.
Role Overview
The Staff Midwife will deliver safe, high-quality, woman-centred midwifery care across the maternity services at University Hospital Kerry. Working as part of a skilled multidisciplinary team, the postholder will contribute to clinical excellence, continuity of care, and the promotion of normal birth in line with HSE national standards and local service priorities.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide evidence-based midwifery care to women and their families throughout the antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal periods.
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualised care plans in accordance with professional and regulatory standards.
- Contribute to a safe clinical environment by adhering to infection prevention, risk management, and patient safety protocols.
- Maintain accurate and contemporaneous clinical records in line with NMBI standards and HSE documentation requirements.
- Participate in the clinical supervision, mentorship, and support of student midwives and colleagues.
- Engage in continuing professional development and quality improvement initiatives within the maternity unit.
- Collaborate effectively with the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure integrated, woman-centred care.
Requirements
Candidates must, on the closing date, hold:
- Current, live registration as a Midwife on the Midwifery Division of the NMBI Register (or be eligible for registration).
- A relevant midwifery qualification recognised by NMBI.
- The clinical competence and professional conduct required of a Staff Midwife in an acute hospital setting.
Candidates should also demonstrate commitment to ongoing professional development, a patient-focused approach, and the ability to work effectively under pressure in a dynamic clinical environment.

Salary
€38,166 – €54,956 per annum (HSE Staff Midwife — Grade 2143 scale, 12-point scale, plus Long Service Increment of €56,592 where applicable). Based on the HSE Consolidated Salary Scales effective 1 June 2026. Pay is subject to standard public sector deductions. Part-time hours, if applicable, are remunerated on a pro-rata basis.

Operating under HSE South West, UHK provides a comprehensive range of inpatient, outpatient, and emergency services to a population of over 150,000 people.
