St. Luke’s General Hospital Kilkenny is recruiting a Clinical Nurse Manager 1 (CNM1) for its Paediatrics department. This is a permanent, wholetime opportunity for an experienced paediatric nurse to step into a clinical leadership role within one of the HSE Dublin and South East region’s key acute hospitals.
Role Overview
The Clinical Nurse Manager 1 will provide frontline nursing leadership within the Paediatrics unit at St. Luke’s General Hospital. The post holder will support the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based paediatric care, contributing to patient safety, staff development, and the effective day-to-day management of the unit.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide clinical leadership and line management support within the Paediatrics department.
- Implement and oversee the Paediatric Early Warning System (PEWS) to support early identification of deteriorating patients.
- Apply and promote the Irish Children’s Triage System (ICTS) in line with national standards.
- Adhere to and promote the Paediatric Sepsis protocol to ensure timely, effective intervention.
- Fulfil mandatory reporting and safeguarding duties under the Children’s First Act 2017.
- Support staff performance, education, and professional development within the team.
- Contribute to quality improvement, audit, and service development initiatives within Paediatrics.
Requirements
- Registration in the Children’s Division of the Register of Nurses and Midwives maintained by NMBI.
- Demonstrated depth and breadth of experience in a Paediatrics setting.
- Practical working knowledge of PEWS, ICTS, and the Paediatric Sepsis protocol.
- Familiarity with obligations under the Children’s First Act 2017 as they apply to clinical practice.
- Strong clinical leadership and communication skills with the ability to manage and motivate a nursing team.
Salary
€57,780 – €68,046 per annum (HSE Clinical Nurse Manager 1 General scale, 8-point scale). Salary is based on the HSE Consolidated Salary Scales effective 1 June 2026.

St. Luke’s General Hospital, Kilkenny, is the principal acute hospital serving counties Kilkenny and Carlow, providing a wide range of inpatient, outpatient, and emergency services. The Paediatrics unit forms an integral part of the hospital’s acute care offering within the HSE Dublin and South East region.
