L’Arche Ireland is recruiting a Care Assistant for its Brabazon Community in Callan, Co. Kilkenny. This is a permanent, full-time opportunity for a compassionate and committed individual to support adults with intellectual disabilities to live fulfilling, active, and meaningful lives within a values-driven community.
About the Role
L’Arche Ireland is a Section 39 voluntary organisation that creates homes and day programmes where people with and without intellectual disabilities live and work together as peers. The Care Assistant will play a central role in the day-to-day life of the community, supporting residents in a person-centred, inclusive, and respectful manner in line with the ethos and model of L’Arche.
This position requires flexibility, including availability for early mornings, evenings, sleepovers, and weekend work.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality personal care and practical support to adults with intellectual disabilities
- Support residents to live satisfying, fulfilling, and interesting lives in the community
- Assist individuals using wheelchairs and other assistive equipment as required
- Participate actively in the life of the L’Arche community and embrace its model and ethos
- Maintain a person-centred approach in all interactions and care planning
- Work collaboratively as part of a residential team across a flexible rota
- Contribute to the safety, wellbeing, and dignity of all residents
Requirements and Qualifications
- QQI Level 5 Certificate in Health Care (or equivalent), or actively working towards same
- Experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities
- Willingness to take part in the community and embrace the model and ethos of L’Arche
- Person-centred approach and attitude
- Good standard of oral and written English
- Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills
- Experience with wheelchairs and other assistive equipment is an advantage
- Full driving licence is desirable but not essential
- Must be currently resident and approved for work in Ireland
- Garda vetting is required for this post
Salary
Competitive pay. L’Arche Ireland is a Section 39 voluntary organisation and sets its own terms and conditions of employment, which may differ from HSE pay scales. Full details will be provided to shortlisted candidates.
Location
Brabazon Community, Callan, Co. Kilkenny. Callan is a market town in south Co. Kilkenny, situated approximately 16 km from Kilkenny City. This post is community-based with a residential care focus.
