HSE Dublin and Midlands is recruiting a Staff Grade Medical Scientist specialising in Clinical Chemistry to join laboratory services across four key sites in the region. This is a permanent, wholetime post offering panel-based appointments to Midlands Regional Hospital Tullamore, Midlands Regional Hospital Portlaoise, Naas General Hospital, and Regional Hospital Mullingar.
Role Overview
As a Staff Grade Medical Scientist in Clinical Chemistry, you will deliver high-quality laboratory diagnostics within a busy acute hospital setting. A panel will be formed from this competition to fill current and future permanent and specified purpose vacancies — both full-time and part-time — across the Dublin and Midlands region. Candidates should be able to demonstrate depth and breadth of post-qualification experience in the field of Clinical Chemistry.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine and specialised Clinical Chemistry analyses in line with laboratory protocols and quality standards
- Maintain accuracy, precision, and turnaround times for diagnostic testing to support patient care
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot analytical instrumentation
- Participate in quality assurance, external quality assessment, and accreditation activities
- Adhere to health and safety requirements and all relevant HSE policies and procedures
- Contribute to the training and supervision of student medical scientists and junior staff as required
- Liaise with clinical teams to support effective use of laboratory services
Requirements
- Registration with CORU as a Medical Scientist (or eligibility to register)
- Demonstrated depth and breadth of post-qualification experience in Clinical Chemistry
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a commitment to quality and patient safety
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary laboratory team
- Satisfactory knowledge of the Irish healthcare system and the role of the Medical Scientist within it
Salary
€43,674 – €69,159 per annum (HSE Medical Scientist scale, Grade 3875, 15-point scale, plus Long Service Increments where applicable), based on the HSE Consolidated Salary Scales effective 1 June 2026.

A panel will be formed to fill vacancies at four acute hospital sites across the HSE Dublin and Midlands region:

Permanent Wholetime. Panel appointments may also fill specified purpose, part-time, and full-time vacancies as they arise.
