St Luke’s Radiation Oncology Network (SLRON) is recruiting a Driver (Minibus) to join its Patient Transport team on a permanent, whole-time basis. Based in Dublin South, this role plays a vital part in ensuring cancer patients can access life-critical radiation oncology treatment safely and on time.

About the Role

The Driver (Minibus) is responsible for the safe transportation of patients and clients on public roads to and from treatment appointments across the St Luke’s Radiation Oncology Network. Operating under the Driver (Patients/Clients Public Roads) grade, the post holder provides a dignified, person-centred transport service that supports patient access and wellbeing throughout their course of treatment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Transport patients and clients safely and punctually to and from SLRON facilities on public roads in accordance with scheduled routes and individual needs.
  • Operate a minibus in compliance with road traffic legislation and HSE vehicle policies.
  • Assist patients in boarding and alighting the vehicle, including those with limited mobility, with care and respect for their dignity and comfort.
  • Maintain the cleanliness, roadworthiness, and safety of the assigned vehicle, reporting defects promptly.
  • Complete journey logs, incident reports, and other records as required.
  • Liaise with the Patient Transport Coordinator and clinical staff regarding scheduling, patient needs, and any changes to routes or appointments.
  • Adhere to all HSE infection prevention and control, health and safety, and data protection requirements.

Requirements

  • Hold a full, clean, current Irish driving licence appropriate to the vehicle category (minibus/D1).
  • Demonstrate a safe and professional driving record.
  • Experience transporting vulnerable or medically dependent patients/clients is desirable.
  • Ability to communicate with empathy and professionalism with patients, carers, and colleagues.
  • Satisfactory reference checks and Garda vetting clearance required.

Salary

This post is remunerated in accordance with the HSE Consolidated Pay Scales (effective 1 June 2026) at the Driver (Patients/Clients Public Roads) Grade 6132:

€36,651 – €38,130 – €39,687 – €40,101 – €41,118 – €41,998 – €43,264 – €44,577 – €45,939 per annum (9-point scale). No Long Service Increments apply to this grade.

Location

St Luke’s Radiation Oncology Network (SLRON), Dublin South. SLRON provides specialist radiation oncology services across its network of linked hospital sites in the Dublin area. The post holder will be based within the network and may be required to travel to associated sites in the course of patient transport duties.
