HSE Dublin and Midlands is seeking a Clinical Specialist Dietitian in Adult Diabetes (Grade 3715) to join multidisciplinary diabetes services across hospital sites in the Midlands and Kildare regions. This is a permanent wholetime post with an immediate vacancy at Regional Hospital Mullingar, and a panel will be formed to fill current and future vacancies — permanent and specified purpose, full-time and part-time — across the region.

About the Role

As a Clinical Specialist Dietitian in Adult Diabetes, you will provide expert-level dietetic assessment, treatment, and management for patients with diabetes in an acute hospital environment. You will lead on evidence-based practice, drive service improvement initiatives, and contribute to the supervision and development of dietetic students and junior staff members. This is a senior clinical post requiring a high degree of specialist knowledge and the ability to work autonomously within a multidisciplinary team.

  • Provide specialist dietetic assessment, diagnosis, and individualised nutrition management for adults with diabetes across inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Apply a high level of clinical knowledge and evidence-based practice in the delivery of diabetes dietetic services.
  • Lead and contribute to service improvement initiatives, quality programmes, and clinical audits relating to adult diabetes nutrition care.
  • Develop and deliver structured education programmes for patients and carers in line with current clinical guidelines.
  • Collaborate with the wider multidisciplinary diabetes team including consultants, diabetes nurse specialists, and other allied health professionals.
  • Provide clinical supervision, training, and mentorship to dietetic students, support staff, and junior dietitians.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of clinical guidelines, protocols, and procedures within the dietetics service.
  • Maintain accurate clinical records and produce reports in compliance with HSE and professional standards.
  • Participate in continuing professional development and engage in relevant research and evidence-based practice activities.

Requirements

  • A recognised qualification in Human Nutrition and Dietetics and current CORU registration as a Dietitian (or eligibility to register).
  • A high level of clinical knowledge and experience in evidence-based dietetic practice sufficient to meet the demands of the role.
  • Demonstrated experience in dietetic practice within an acute hospital environment, including experience or transferable skills relevant to adult diabetes.
  • Evidence of experience in service improvement and the ability to lead teams on quality and delivery initiatives.
  • Experience engaging in the training and supervision of dietetic students and/or junior staff members.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team in a complex clinical environment.
  • Strong communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills.

Salary

€72,119 – €83,689 per annum (HSE Clinical Specialist Dietician scale, Grade 3715, 9-point scale, no LSIs). Salary is based on the HSE Consolidated Salary Scales effective 1 June 2026 (DoH Circular 2/2026). Starting point on the scale is determined in line with HSE incremental credit policy.

A panel is being formed to fill current and future vacancies across HSE Dublin and Midlands. There is currently 1 permanent wholetime vacancy at Regional Hospital Mullingar. The panel may also be used to fill vacancies at:

  • Midlands Regional Hospital Tullamore
  • Midlands Regional Hospital Portlaoise
  • Naas General Hospital
  • Regional Hospital Mullingar

Contract Type

Permanent Wholetime. The panel formed may also be used to fill specified purpose vacancies of full or part-time duration.
