The Muiríosa Foundation is recruiting a Senior Social Work Practitioner to join its dedicated Social Work Team in the Longford/Westmeath region. This is a permanent, wholetime opportunity to lead person-centred, rights-based social work practice with adults who have intellectual disabilities, working within a values-driven organisation committed to self-directed and inclusive lives.
About the Role
The Muiríosa Foundation’s mission is to ensure that people with intellectual disabilities have access to the supports they need to live self-directed, connected, and fulfilling lives. The successful candidate will join an experienced Social Work Team and provide a high-quality, rights-based social work service to adults with intellectual disabilities and their families across the Longford and Westmeath area. The role centres on person-led practice, with the voice, choices, and aspirations of the individuals supported at the heart of every intervention. This is an exciting senior opportunity for an experienced practitioner who is passionate about safeguarding, advocacy, and supported decision-making in an intellectual disability context.
Key Responsibilities

- Provide a high-quality, rights-based social work service to adults with intellectual disabilities and their families in the Longford/Westmeath area.
- Support individuals through person-led, strengths-based practice, ensuring their voice, choices, and aspirations remain central to all aspects of the work.
- Lead and contribute to safeguarding assessments, care planning, and risk management in line with national policy and legislation.
- Promote and facilitate supported decision-making and advocacy for individuals in line with the Assisted Decision-Making (Capacity) Act.
- Undertake comprehensive social work assessments and develop, implement, and review individual care plans.
- Liaise with multidisciplinary teams, statutory agencies, families, and community resources to coordinate holistic support for service users.
- Contribute to practice development, supervision, and mentoring within the Social Work Team.
- Maintain accurate case records and reports in compliance with organisational and regulatory standards.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, audits, and service planning as required.
Requirements and Qualifications

- Hold a recognised qualification in Social Work and be registered with CORU as a Social Worker (or be eligible for registration).
- Possess significant post-qualification experience in social work practice, preferably in an intellectual disability, disability, or related social care setting.
- Demonstrate knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Assisted Decision-Making (Capacity) Act, Child and Adult Safeguarding frameworks, and disability policy in Ireland.
- Have experience in the preparation and presentation of court reports and statutory assessments where required.
- Demonstrate a commitment to rights-based, person-centred practice and inclusion for people with intellectual disabilities.
- Possess strong communication, assessment, and report-writing skills.
- Hold a full, clean driving licence and have access to transport for the purposes of the role.
Salary
This role is remunerated on the HSE-aligned Social Work Practitioner, Senior (Grade 3614) pay scale. The applicable rates, effective 1 June 2026 (DoH Circular 2/2026), are:
€62,675 – €79,313 per annum (8-point incremental scale), plus Long Service Increment (LSI) of €80,716.
The Muiríosa Foundation is a Section 38 organisation. Salary is aligned to HSE consolidated pay scales; candidates are advised to confirm the applicable entry point with the recruiter.
Location
This post is based in County Westmeath, serving the Longford and Westmeath region. The Muiríosa Foundation operates a network of community-based services across the Midlands, providing day, residential, and community supports to adults with intellectual disabilities. The successful candidate will work across community settings within the region, with travel required as part of the role.
