St. Colman’s Residential Care Centre and Clonskeagh Community Nursing Unit are recruiting Catering Assistants to join Older Persons Services within HSE Dublin and South East. This permanent opportunity offers the chance to support high-quality, person-centred care by preparing and serving meals, maintaining excellent hygiene standards, and contributing to the daily wellbeing of residents across residential and community nursing settings.
About the Role
As a Catering Assistant, you will work under the supervision of Catering Management, Household Management or Nursing Management to deliver safe, efficient and high-quality catering services. Successful candidates may be assigned to central production kitchens, ward kitchens, day care units or dining areas depending on operational requirements. A supplementary panel will also be established to fill future permanent, specified purpose, full-time and part-time vacancies across HSE Dublin South & Wicklow.

- 2 Permanent Whole-Time posts at St. Colman’s Residential Care Centre, Rathdrum, Co. Wicklow.
- 3 Permanent Whole-Time posts at Clonskeagh Community Nursing Unit, Dublin.
- A panel will be created for future permanent and specified purpose vacancies throughout Dublin South & Wicklow Older Persons Services.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, deliver and serve meals, snacks and beverages to residents and service users.
- Support food preparation, including salads, sandwiches and modified diets.
- Maintain high food hygiene, HACCP and infection prevention standards.
- Clean kitchens, catering equipment and designated work areas in accordance with cleaning schedules.
- Complete food safety documentation and operational checklists accurately.
- Receive, store and manage food deliveries and catering supplies.
- Assist with stock control, waste management and portion control.
- Support special functions and catering events.
- Work collaboratively with nursing staff, multidisciplinary teams and colleagues to meet residents’ nutritional needs.
- Comply with all HSE Health & Safety, HIQA and Infection Prevention policies.
Essential Requirements
- Leaving Certificate or equivalent qualification.
- Minimum of one year’s catering experience in a busy healthcare environment.
- HACCP Level 2 certification.
- Knowledge of food hygiene, infection prevention and Health & Safety legislation.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
- Ability to work a rolling 5-day roster over 7 days (39 hours per week).
- Access to appropriate transport to fulfil the requirements of the role.
Salary
€36,407 – €44,087 per annum (HSE Catering Assistant Grade 4123, 9-point salary scale, plus Long Service Increments where applicable), based on the HSE Consolidated Salary Scales effective 1 June 2026. New appointees normally commence on the first point of the scale, with incremental credit applied for recognised relevant service where applicable.

Posts are based within Older Persons Services in Dublin South & Wicklow, including St. Colman’s Residential Care Centre, Rathdrum, Co. Wicklow, and Clonskeagh Community Nursing Unit, Dublin. These services provide residential, respite and day care for older people, supporting person-centred care within multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
Contract Type
Permanent Whole-Time (39 hours per week). A recruitment panel will also be established for future permanent and specified purpose vacancies of full-time and part-time duration.
