HSE West and North West is inviting applications for NCHD Senior House Officer and Registrar positions in Adult Psychiatry and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry across Galway and Roscommon. This fixed-term opportunity offers doctors the chance to gain valuable clinical experience within multidisciplinary mental health services while contributing to high-quality patient care across a diverse regional healthcare network.

Role Overview

Successful candidates will work as part of established psychiatric teams delivering assessment, diagnosis, treatment and ongoing care for patients in Adult Psychiatry and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry services. The posts provide excellent clinical exposure, professional development opportunities and experience within HSE mental health services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess and manage patients presenting with a wide range of psychiatric conditions.
  • Provide high-quality clinical care under consultant supervision.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and care planning.
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation and medical records.
  • Participate in on-call duties and service requirements as assigned.
  • Support service improvement initiatives and clinical governance activities.
  • Work collaboratively with community and hospital-based mental health services.

Requirements

  • Registration with the Irish Medical Council.
  • At least one year’s post-graduation experience in Psychiatry is desirable.
  • Full driving licence and access to own transport, as frequent travel may be required.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork and clinical decision-making skills.

Salary

Senior House Officer: €55,292 – €75,623 per annum (HSE Senior House Officer Grade 1012, 7-point scale).

Registrar: €70,276 – €82,756 per annum (HSE Registrar Grade 1538, 6-point scale).

Salary is based on the HSE Consolidated Salary Scales effective 1 June 2026. Applicable premium payments and approved allowances may apply in accordance with HSE policies.

Location

These positions are based within HSE West and North West services across Galway and Roscommon, providing psychiatric services within hospital and community mental health settings throughout the region.

Contract Type

Fixed Term Wholetime.
