Children’s Health Ireland is recruiting a Metabolic Dietitian at Staff Grade level to join its specialist paediatric healthcare services in Dublin. This specified-purpose, whole-time opportunity is open to both HSE and non-HSE applicants and offers the successful candidate an opportunity to contribute to multidisciplinary care for children and young people with metabolic and nutritional needs.

Role Overview

The Metabolic Dietitian will work as part of the dietetic and wider multidisciplinary team at Children’s Health Ireland. The role will support the assessment, planning and delivery of specialist nutritional care for paediatric patients, working closely with children, families, clinical teams and relevant support services.

This is a Staff Grade Dietitian position within a specialist children’s healthcare environment. The successful candidate will be expected to deliver safe, evidence-based and family-centred dietetic care in accordance with professional standards, organisational policies and the requirements of the service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess the nutritional needs of children and young people referred to the metabolic dietetic service.
  • Develop and review individualised nutrition and dietetic care plans.
  • Provide specialist dietary education and practical guidance to patients, parents and carers.
  • Work collaboratively with dietitians, medical teams, nursing staff and other health and social care professionals.
  • Monitor patient progress and adapt nutritional interventions where clinically appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate clinical records in accordance with professional and organisational requirements.
  • Participate in service development, clinical governance, audit and quality-improvement activities.
  • Contribute to a supportive, professional and family-centred paediatric healthcare service.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • A recognised qualification in dietetics that meets the eligibility requirements for the post.
  • Current or eligible registration with CORU as a Dietitian.
  • The professional knowledge and clinical competencies required to work at Staff Grade Dietitian level.
  • Effective communication, organisation and multidisciplinary teamwork skills.
  • An ability to deliver evidence-based and patient-centred dietetic care.
  • Applicants must satisfy all eligibility, registration and appointment requirements contained in the official Children’s Health Ireland campaign documentation.

Salary

€45,514 – €63,831 per annum on the HSE Dietitian grade 3389 scale, comprising 13 standard incremental points, with a Long Service Increment of €65,068 where applicable.

Children’s Health Ireland is a Section 38 employer, and the salary is aligned with the HSE Consolidated Salary Scales effective 1 June 2026. The point of entry will be determined in accordance with applicable public-sector salary and incremental credit rules.

Location

The role is based with Children’s Health Ireland in Dublin South, within the HSE Dublin and South East health region. The successful candidate will work in a specialist paediatric environment supporting the delivery of coordinated healthcare services for children, young people and their families.
