University Hospital Limerick is seeking applications for the position of Biochemist Staff Grade – Point of Care within the Point of Care Department. Role Overview
The successful candidate will join the Point of Care Department at University Hospital Limerick, working as part of a multidisciplinary laboratory team to support clinical services across HSE Mid West. The role involves ensuring the quality, reliability and governance of point of care testing services while maintaining professional standards and contributing to continuous service improvement.
There is currently one specified purpose whole-time vacancy available. A panel may also be established from this recruitment campaign to fill current and future permanent or specified purpose vacancies, on either a full-time or part-time basis, across HSE Mid West.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide professional biochemistry support within the Point of Care Department.
- Assist in maintaining high-quality laboratory standards and regulatory compliance.
- Support the implementation, monitoring and quality assurance of point of care testing services.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to support patient diagnosis and treatment.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, audits and service development.
- Maintain accurate laboratory records and documentation.
- Comply with HSE policies, laboratory procedures and professional practice standards.
Requirements
- Meet the eligibility criteria for appointment as a Staff Grade Biochemist with the Health Service Executive.
- Possess the qualifications and professional experience required for the grade.
- Demonstrate excellent analytical, organisational and communication skills.
- Be capable of working effectively within a multidisciplinary healthcare environment.
- Commitment to delivering high-quality laboratory and patient-centred services.
Salary
€45,279 – €75,148 per annum (HSE Biochemist Staff Grade, Grade Code 3751, 16-point scale, plus Long Service Increment where applicable), based on the HSE Consolidated Salary Scales effective 1 June 2026.
Location
This position is based within the Point of Care Department at University Hospital Limerick, forming part of HSE Mid West Acute Services. The successful candidate will contribute to diagnostic services supporting patients across Limerick, Clare and North Tipperary.
