St. Ita’s Hospital in Newcastle West is recruiting a qualified Plumber to join the Older Persons Services team within HSE Mid West. This permanent whole-time opportunity offers the chance to provide essential maintenance support across healthcare facilities, helping to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality environments for patients, residents, staff, and visitors.
Role Overview
The successful candidate will be based primarily at St. Ita’s Hospital, Newcastle West, while also providing maintenance support across other Older Persons Services sites within HSE Mid West as required. Working as part of the estates and maintenance team, the role involves carrying out plumbing installation, repair, inspection, and preventative maintenance work to support the ongoing operation of healthcare facilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out plumbing maintenance, repairs and installation work across healthcare facilities.
- Maintain water, heating, drainage and sanitary systems to required standards.
- Respond promptly to maintenance issues and emergency call-outs when required.
- Support planned preventative maintenance programmes.
- Ensure all work complies with health and safety legislation and HSE procedures.
- Travel to other Older Persons Services locations within HSE Mid West as required.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and report completed works.
- Work collaboratively with estates, facilities and clinical teams to minimise disruption to services.
Requirements
- Relevant recognised plumbing qualification and trade certification.
- Experience carrying out plumbing maintenance and repair work.
- Ability to diagnose faults and complete repairs efficiently.
- Good knowledge of health and safety practices.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Full driving licence and willingness to travel between Older Persons Services sites as required.
- Eligibility to work in Ireland and satisfy all HSE recruitment requirements.
Salary
€42,486 – €48,853 per annum (HSE Plumber Grade 5134 salary scale, 11-point scale, plus Long Service Increments where applicable), based on the HSE Consolidated Salary Scales effective 1 June 2026.
Location
This position is based at St. Ita’s Hospital, Newcastle West, Co. Limerick, within HSE Mid West Older Persons Services. The successful candidate will also travel to other Older Persons Services locations across the region as operational requirements arise.
