Assistant Chief Fire Officer – Cork | Cork City Council

Cork City Council, Ireland’s second-largest city authority, is seeking an experienced Assistant Chief Fire Officer to join our dynamic emergency services team. This permanent, full-time position offers the opportunity to lead fire safety operations in one of Ireland’s fastest-growing cities.

About the Role

The Assistant Chief Fire Officer will report to the Chief Fire Officer and take responsibility for managing service delivery and development of Cork City Fire Brigade. This leadership position involves overseeing critical emergency operations, fire safety protocols, and major emergency management across Cork City’s 224,000 residents.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and develop Cork City Fire Brigade operations including fire response and emergency services
  • Oversee fire safety standards, protocols, and compliance across the city
  • Lead major emergency management planning and coordination efforts
  • Direct training programs and professional development for fire brigade personnel
  • Implement change management initiatives to improve service delivery
  • Ensure quality assurance standards are maintained across all operations
  • Manage logistics and resource allocation for emergency services
  • Represent Cork City Fire Department in official capacity when required
  • Act for the Chief Fire Officer when necessary
  • Contribute to strategic development as part of the management team

Required Qualifications

Essential Requirements

  • Relevant fire service qualifications and certifications
  • Extensive experience in fire service operations and management
  • Proven leadership experience in emergency services environment
  • Strong knowledge of fire safety regulations and procedures
  • Experience in major emergency management and coordination
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and make critical decisions

Preferred Qualifications

  • Third-level education in relevant field
  • Previous experience in local authority or public service
  • Training and development experience
  • Knowledge of Irish fire service regulations and standards
  • Change management and quality assurance experience
