Join the Health Service Executive (HSE) South West as Clinical Director, Quality and Patient Safety, a key leadership role dedicated to improving clinical outcomes, governance, and patient experience across Cork and Kerry. About the Role

As Clinical Director, Quality and Patient Safety, you will oversee the strategic implementation of quality improvement frameworks, clinical governance, and patient safety initiatives throughout HSE South West. Working closely with senior clinicians and executive management, you will ensure adherence to national quality standards and contribute to a culture of continuous learning and improvement.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical leadership for regional quality and patient safety programmes.
  • Oversee implementation of clinical governance systems and risk management frameworks.
  • Monitor performance metrics and safety indicators, ensuring alignment with national HSE policy.
  • Support hospital groups and community services in embedding evidence-based practices.
  • Lead engagement with multidisciplinary teams to promote safety culture and accountability.
  • Collaborate with the Regional Executive Officer and Regional Clinical Director to strengthen cross-service integration.
  • Report on regional quality improvement outcomes and compliance to HSE National Office.

Required Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered medical practitioner with at least 10 years’ post-registration experience.
  • Proven senior clinical leadership or management experience within a healthcare setting.
  • Demonstrated expertise in clinical governance, quality improvement, and patient safety systems.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.

Desirable

  • Postgraduate qualification in healthcare management, quality, or patient safety.
  • Experience working within HSE structures or similar large public-sector organisations.
