Cork University Hospital, part of HSE South West, is seeking an exceptional Advanced Nurse Practitioner Candidate to join our specialized Children’s Endocrinology team. This permanent wholetime position offers the opportunity to provide expert pediatric endocrine care while developing advanced practice skills in one of Ireland’s leading children’s hospitals.
About the Role
We are looking for a dedicated nursing professional to work as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner Candidate in our Children’s Endocrinology department at Cork University Hospital. This role provides comprehensive care to children and adolescents with endocrine disorders, including diabetes, growth disorders, and other hormonal conditions. You’ll work alongside our multidisciplinary team to deliver evidence-based, family-centered care while progressing through the Advanced Nurse Practitioner candidacy program.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide specialized nursing care to children and adolescents with endocrine disorders including diabetes, growth hormone deficiency, and thyroid conditions
- Conduct comprehensive patient assessments and develop individualized care plans in collaboration with the endocrinology team
- Deliver patient and family education on diabetes management, medication administration, and lifestyle modifications
- Support children and families through complex treatment regimens and chronic condition management
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and contribute to clinical decision-making processes
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation and contribute to quality improvement initiatives
- Progress through the Advanced Nurse Practitioner candidacy program with appropriate supervision and mentorship
Required Qualifications
Essential Requirements
- Registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI)
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or equivalent qualification
- Minimum 5 years post-registration experience in pediatric nursing
- Experience in pediatric endocrinology, diabetes care, or related specialty area
- Current evidence of continuing professional development
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working with children and families
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Advanced Nursing Practice or related field
- Experience in advanced nursing practice or clinical nurse specialist roles
- Knowledge of pediatric diabetes management and insulin therapy
- Experience with continuous glucose monitoring systems and insulin pump therapy
- Research experience or evidence of quality improvement activities
- Additional qualifications in pediatric care or endocrinology
