Join Mayo University Hospital as an Anaesthetic Registrar for the January 2026 rotation. This is an excellent opportunity within the HSE West and North West region to further develop your clinical skills in a dynamic anaesthesia department.
About the Role
The successful candidate will join the Anaesthesia Department at Mayo University Hospital on a 6-month fixed-term wholetime contract starting January 2026. The post offers hands-on experience in perioperative medicine, airway management, intensive care, and emergency anaesthesia within a supportive multidisciplinary team.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality anaesthetic care under consultant supervision.
- Participate in the pre-operative assessment and post-operative management of patients.
- Provide anaesthesia services for theatre, obstetrics, ICU, and emergency cases.
- Engage in teaching, audit, and departmental research activities.
- Participate in the on-call rota as required.
- Comply with HSE policies and maintain professional standards of practice.
Required Qualifications
Essential
- Active IMC registration in the Specialist or General Division.
- Eligibility to work in Ireland with valid immigration permission.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in Anaesthesia.
Desirable
- Membership examinations (e.g., FCAI, MRCA, or equivalent).
- Prior Irish/EU anaesthesia experience.
- OET/IELTS certification (where applicable).

- Salary: As per the HSE Consolidated Salary Scales (1 August 2025) — Registrar (Grade Code 1538):
