Community Healthcare Organisation (CHO) Sligo Leitrim is inviting applications for the position of Assistant Director of Nursing (PIC) at Ballinamore Community Nursing Unit, a 20-bed facility providing high-quality long-term care for older persons. This is a full-time, permanent HSE position within Older Persons Services, offering a competitive salary of €67,815–€81,203 per annum (as per HSE Consolidated Pay Scales, effective 1 August 2025).


About the Role

The Assistant Director of Nursing 4 (Person in Charge) will be responsible for the overall management, governance, and clinical leadership of the nursing unit. The role involves ensuring compliance with HIQA regulations, maintaining clinical excellence, and supporting the professional development of nursing staff in line with HSE corporate governance and best practice standards.

This key leadership role oversees all aspects of care delivery within the unit and supports the creation of a safe, person-centred environment that promotes dignity, independence, and quality of life for residents.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical and professional leadership within the unit and ensure nursing care meets the highest HSE and NMBI standards.
  • Manage, monitor, and evaluate clinical standards and quality assurance systems.
  • Ensure compliance with HIQA regulations and internal audit procedures.
  • Lead on staff management, recruitment, rostering, supervision, and continuous professional development.
  • Promote collaboration across multidisciplinary teams, residents, and families.
  • Oversee health and safety compliance, infection control, and risk management procedures.
  • Participate in strategic planning and contribute to the overall operational efficiency of Older Persons Services.
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure data integrity across all systems.
  • Support service improvement initiatives aligned with HSE policy and national frameworks.

Required Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered General Nurse (RGN) with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).
  • A minimum of three years’ experience in a nursing management role within a residential or community care setting.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of HIQA Standards and the Health Act 2007.
  • Proven leadership, communication, and staff management skills.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development and compliance with the NMBI Code of Conduct.

Preferred

  • Postgraduate qualification in Healthcare Management, Gerontology, or Leadership.
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary teams in an Older Persons Care environment.
  • Familiarity with HSE governance frameworks and audit processes.
