Join the HSE West and North West as an Assistant Staff Officer (Grade IV) supporting Patient Services at Portiuncula University Hospital (Ballinasloe, Galway) and Roscommon University Hospital. This is a permanent wholetime opportunity to play a key role in administrative and operational excellence within two major acute hospital sites.
About the Role
The Assistant Staff Officer will assist with the operational management of the Patient Services Department, including supervising administrative staff through established line management structures. The post holder will also support the Patient Services Managers in the coordination of unscheduled and scheduled care, helping to optimise patient flow and service delivery across both hospitals.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Patient Services Managers with day-to-day departmental operations.
- Manage assigned administrative teams and ensure effective resource allocation.
- Coordinate workflows to enhance efficiency in unscheduled and scheduled care areas.
- Assist in the development and review of patient pathways for both new and existing services.
- Collaborate with colleagues in the Emergency and Admissions Departments to streamline patient management.
- Contribute to quality improvement and service planning initiatives across PUH and RUH.
- Maintain accurate reporting and documentation aligned with HSE policy.
Required Qualifications
Essential
- Previous experience in an administrative or clerical role within a healthcare or public service environment.
- Demonstrated supervisory or team coordination experience.
- Strong communication and organisational skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office and HSE information systems.
Preferred
- Experience in hospital patient administration systems.
- Knowledge of HSE structures, policies, and procedures.
- Relevant qualification in business administration, healthcare management, or related field.
