Care Assistant, Intellectual Disability – Mayo | HSE Ireland

The Health Service Executive (HSE) West and North West is seeking dedicated Care Assistants to join our Mayo Community Living services. This permanent wholetime position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals with intellectual disabilities across County Mayo.

About the Role

As a Care Assistant with HSE Mayo Community Living, you will provide direct, person-centered care to individuals with intellectual disabilities in community and residential settings. This rewarding healthcare role involves supporting daily living activities, promoting independence, and ensuring the highest standards of care and dignity for service users.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct personal care and support to individuals with intellectual disabilities in various settings
• Assist with daily living activities including personal hygiene, meal preparation, and medication administration
• Support service users in developing life skills and maintaining their independence
• Transport service users using HSE vehicles to appointments, social activities, and community programs
• Maintain accurate care records and documentation in accordance with HSE policies
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including nurses, social workers, and therapists
• Implement individual care plans and contribute to care plan reviews

Required Qualifications

Essential Requirements

• Demonstrated experience in healthcare settings providing direct care (community or residential)
• Full clean driving license Category B (Manual Vehicles) – mandatory for HSE vehicle operation
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
• Flexibility to work various shifts including weekends and holidays

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities
• Relevant healthcare qualifications or certifications
• Knowledge of person-centered care approaches
• Experience with care documentation and record keeping
