We’re seeking a dedicated Caretaker for our Meath facility to ensure safe, clean, and well-maintained healthcare environments for patients, staff, and visitors.

About the Role

As a Caretaker with HSE Dublin and North East, you’ll play a vital role in maintaining our healthcare facilities to the highest standards. Working in Meath, you’ll be responsible for the general upkeep, security, and maintenance of our primary care facility, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for all users.

Key Responsibilities

  • Facility Maintenance: Conduct routine maintenance checks, minor repairs, and general upkeep of buildings, grounds, and equipment
  • Security Operations: Ensure building security by monitoring access, conducting security rounds, and managing alarm systems
  • Cleaning Coordination: Oversee cleaning standards and assist with deep cleaning tasks as required
  • Grounds Maintenance: Maintain external areas including gardens, pathways, and car parks to professional standards
  • Emergency Response: Respond promptly to facility emergencies and coordinate with maintenance contractors when needed
  • Health & Safety Compliance: Ensure all areas meet HSE health and safety standards and report any hazards immediately
  • Equipment Management: Maintain and monitor heating, lighting, and other building systems

Required Qualifications

Essential Requirements

  • Leaving Certificate or equivalent education level
  • Previous experience in caretaking, facilities management, or building maintenance
  • Basic knowledge of building systems including heating, plumbing, and electrical systems
  • Physical fitness for manual handling and maintenance tasks
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in healthcare or public sector environments
  • Basic trade skills (carpentry, painting, minor electrical work)
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations
  • Clean driving licence (full licence preferred)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
