Sligo University Hospital is seeking a dedicated Catering Officer II to join our Food Services team, providing essential nutritional support to patients, staff, and visitors across our comprehensive healthcare facility serving Sligo, Leitrim, South Donegal, and West Cavan.
About the Role
As Catering Officer II in our Food Services department, you will play a crucial role in managing catering operations within our acute hospital environment. This permanent, full-time position offers the opportunity to contribute to patient care through high-quality food service delivery while working alongside our multidisciplinary healthcare teams. You will report to senior catering management and collaborate with clinical staff to ensure nutritional standards meet patient care requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise daily food service operations including meal preparation, distribution, and quality control across hospital departments
- Manage catering staff schedules and workflow to ensure efficient service delivery during breakfast, lunch, dinner, and special dietary requirements
- Coordinate with clinical teams to accommodate therapeutic diets, dietary restrictions, and patient nutritional needs
- Maintain food safety and hygiene standards in compliance with healthcare regulations and hospital policies
- Monitor inventory levels and food costs while ensuring optimal nutritional value and patient satisfaction
- Implement menu planning initiatives that support patient recovery and staff wellbeing programs
- Oversee special event catering including staff functions, patient celebrations, and visitor services
Required Qualifications
Essential Requirements
- Level 6 qualification in Culinary Arts, Food Service Management, or related hospitality field
- Minimum 3 years experience in catering operations, preferably within healthcare or institutional food service
- Fluent English language skills with strong written and verbal communication abilities
- Food Safety certification (HACCP) and knowledge of healthcare catering regulations
- Leadership and team management experience in high-volume food service environments
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in hospital or healthcare catering operations
- Knowledge of therapeutic diets and clinical nutrition requirements
- Budget management and cost control experience in food service
- Additional certifications in food hygiene and safety management
