Catering Officer II – Hospital Catering – Sligo | Sligo University Hospital

Sligo University Hospital is seeking an experienced Catering Officer II for our busy hospital catering department in Sligo. This full-time permanent role offers excellent career progression opportunities and the chance to make a real difference in patient and staff nutrition services.

About the Role

As Catering Officer II, you’ll oversee daily catering operations within our modern hospital facility. You’ll manage food service delivery across multiple departments while ensuring the highest standards of food safety, nutrition, and customer satisfaction. This role reports to the Catering Manager and offers significant responsibility in a healthcare environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise daily catering operations across hospital departments including patient meal services
  • Manage food preparation schedules and coordinate with kitchen staff to ensure timely meal delivery
  • Ensure compliance with HACCP standards and food safety regulations in healthcare settings
  • Monitor food quality, portion control, and nutritional standards for patient and staff meals
  • Coordinate special dietary requirements for patients with medical conditions
  • Lead a team of catering assistants and maintain staff schedules and training programs
  • Maintain inventory control and liaise with suppliers for food procurement

Essential Requirements

  • Education: Relevant qualification in Catering, Food Service Management, or equivalent
  • Experience: Minimum 3 years in catering operations with 2 years in supervisory role
  • Certifications: HACCP Level 2 certification mandatory
  • Skills: Strong leadership abilities with excellent communication and organizational skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Healthcare Experience: Previous catering experience in hospital or healthcare facility
  • Management Training: Formal supervisory or management qualification
  • Food Safety: Additional food safety certifications (Level 3 HACCP)
  • Technology: Experience with hospital catering management systems
