About the Role
Connolly Hospital, part of the HSE Dublin and North East health region, is seeking an experienced Chef Grade I (Cócaire I) to join its Catering Department. This is a permanent, whole-time post providing high-quality meals and nutritional services to patients, staff, and visitors in one of Dublin’s leading public hospitals.
As part of a professional catering team, the successful candidate will play a vital role in ensuring that food production meets HSE quality, safety, and hygiene standards, while supporting the hospital’s commitment to excellence in healthcare support services.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, prepare, and cook meals in accordance with hospital dietary requirements and menu plans.
- Supervise catering operations and kitchen staff to ensure efficient service delivery.
- Maintain strict food safety, hygiene, and HACCP compliance at all times.
- Monitor stock levels, manage ordering, and minimise waste through effective resource planning.
- Ensure adherence to all HSE policies, including infection prevention and control standards.
- Collaborate with dietitians, ward managers, and support services to deliver high-quality patient meals.
- Contribute to training, induction, and performance review processes for catering team members.
Required Qualifications
Essential
- National Craft Certificate or equivalent recognised qualification in Professional Cookery.
- Minimum of five years’ post-qualification experience in a large-scale catering environment.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a catering team in a healthcare or institutional setting.
- Up-to-date knowledge of HACCP and food safety regulations.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
Desirable
- Experience within a hospital or healthcare catering service.
- Supervisory qualification or management training certification.
- Familiarity with HSE policies and standards for healthcare support staff.
