We are seeking an experienced Clinical Midwife Specialist for our Obstetric & Gynaecology Unit at Letterkenny University Hospital, offering specialized sonography services in a dynamic hospital environment.
About the Role
Join our expert team as a Clinical Midwife Specialist in our busy Obstetric & Gynaecology Unit, where you’ll provide advanced midwifery care and specialized ultrasound services. This Specified Purpose Wholetime position offers the opportunity to work with cutting-edge sonography equipment while delivering exceptional patient care in women’s health services.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive midwifery care throughout the antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal periods within the Obstetric & Gynaecology Unit
- Perform specialized obstetric and gynaecological ultrasound examinations using advanced sonography techniques
- Conduct detailed fetal assessments including anomaly scans, growth monitoring, and Doppler studies
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including obstetricians, gynaecologists, and ultrasonographers
- Mentor and supervise junior midwifery staff and student midwives in clinical practice
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation and participate in quality improvement initiatives
- Provide patient education and counseling regarding pregnancy, childbirth, and women’s health matters
Required Qualifications
Essential Requirements
- Registered Midwife with current NMBI registration
- Minimum 3 years post-registration midwifery experience in obstetric and gynaecological settings
- Postgraduate qualification in Medical Ultrasound or equivalent sonography certification
- Demonstrated expertise in obstetric and gynaecological ultrasound examinations
- Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Masters degree in Midwifery, Women’s Health, or related field
- Experience in high-risk obstetric care and complex gynaecological conditions
- Additional certifications in fetal medicine or maternal-fetal medicine
- Previous experience in teaching or mentoring healthcare professionals
- Knowledge of current evidence-based practice in maternal and women’s health
