About the Role

Mayo University Hospital (MUH) invites applications for the post of Clinical Nurse Manager 1 (Peri Operative Directorate). This permanent, full-time position offers an opportunity to play a key leadership role within the hospital’s surgical and peri-operative services.
As part of the HSE West and North West region, MUH provides acute and elective services to a wide catchment area. The successful candidate will demonstrate depth and breadth of clinical experience in peri-operative care, with strong leadership and communication skills.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate nursing staff within the Peri Operative Directorate.
  • Ensure safe, high-quality, and evidence-based patient care.
  • Manage daily theatre operations and support multidisciplinary team collaboration.
  • Oversee clinical audits, infection control practices, and staff development.
  • Promote adherence to hospital policies, HSE standards, and best practice guidelines.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives in theatre efficiency and patient outcomes.
  • Supervise induction and mentorship of new nursing staff.

Required Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered General Nurse (RGN) with An Bord Altranais agus Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann (NMBI).
  • Demonstrated peri-operative clinical experience relevant to the role.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.

Desirable

  • Postgraduate qualification in Peri-Operative Nursing, Management, or Clinical Leadership.
  • Previous experience in staff supervision or ward management.
