Wexford General Hospital is seeking an experienced Clinical Nurse Manager 2 (CNM2) to lead nursing services within its Medical Day Care unit. This is a permanent, full-time opportunity for a motivated nursing professional ready to take on a key clinical leadership role at one of Ireland’s busy acute hospitals in the HSE Dublin and South East region.
About the Role
The Clinical Nurse Manager 2 is responsible for the day-to-day management of nursing services within the Medical Day Care unit at Wexford General Hospital. Working under the direction of the Clinical Nurse Manager 3, the post-holder will provide clinical leadership, ensure the delivery of high-quality patient-centred care, and manage a team of nursing and support staff across the unit. The CNM2 plays a central role in maintaining standards, supporting professional development, and contributing to service improvement initiatives within the medical directorate.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day clinical leadership and management of nursing staff within the Medical Day Care unit.
- Ensure the delivery of evidence-based, patient-centred nursing care in line with HSE policies, professional standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Manage staffing levels, rosters, and skill mix to ensure safe, effective service delivery.
- Monitor and evaluate the quality of nursing care provided, identifying opportunities for improvement and implementing change where required.
- Act as a resource and role model for nursing staff, supporting professional development and mentorship within the team.
- Collaborate effectively with the wider multidisciplinary team, including medical consultants, allied health professionals, and management, to coordinate patient care pathways.
- Manage and maintain accurate patient records, clinical documentation, and risk management processes in accordance with HSE standards.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and guidelines relevant to Medical Day Care nursing practice.
- Participate in clinical governance activities, audit processes, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with infection prevention and control protocols and all relevant health and safety legislation.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) in the relevant division.
- Significant post-registration nursing experience, with demonstrable experience in an acute medical or day care setting.
- Proven clinical leadership and management capability, with experience supervising or managing a nursing team.
- Strong commitment to quality, patient safety, and evidence-based practice.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organisational skills.
- Ability to prioritise effectively, problem-solve, and make sound clinical decisions under pressure.
- Familiarity with HSE governance frameworks, clinical risk management, and relevant national standards.
- A relevant post-registration qualification in management, clinical speciality, or leadership would be an advantage.
Salary
€62,699 – €74,123 per annum (HSE Clinical Nurse Manager 2 (General) scale, 11-point scale, plus Long Service Increments (LSIs) thereafter), based on the HSE Consolidated Salary Scales effective 1 June 2026.
