About the Role
We are seeking a motivated Clinical Nurse Specialist Candidate in Palliative Care to join our multidisciplinary team at Cork University Hospital. This permanent wholetime position offers comprehensive training and mentorship in palliative care nursing, pain management, and family support within one of Ireland’s leading healthcare institutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert nursing assessment and care planning for palliative care patients
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including consultants, social workers, and chaplains
- Develop and implement individualized care plans focusing on comfort and quality of life
- Support patients and families through difficult end-of-life decisions and transitions
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation and participate in case conferences
- Mentor junior nursing staff and students in palliative care best practices
- Participate in clinical audits and quality improvement initiatives
Required Qualifications
Essential Requirements
- Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI)
- Minimum 2 years post-registration nursing experience in acute care setting
- Demonstrated interest in palliative care nursing through previous experience or training
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills for sensitive family interactions
- Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary healthcare teams
- Commitment to compassionate, patient-centered care approach
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in oncology, intensive care, or palliative care environments
- Post-graduate qualification in palliative care nursing or related specialty
- Experience in pain management and symptom control methodologies
- Training in bereavement counseling or family support techniques
