Cork University Hospital, a leading academic medical center in Ireland’s HSE South West region, is seeking an experienced Clinical Nurse Specialist to join our specialized Acute Haematology Oncology Unit. This permanent wholetime position offers the opportunity to provide expert nursing care to patients with blood cancers and hematological disorders in a dynamic, multidisciplinary environment.
About the Role
As Clinical Nurse Specialist in Acute Haematology Oncology, you will deliver advanced nursing practice in the specialized care of patients with hematological malignancies and blood disorders. This role involves clinical leadership within the haematology oncology unit, supporting complex treatment protocols and providing expertise in cancer care nursing. You will work closely with consultant haematologists, oncologists, and the multidisciplinary team in our state-of-the-art facility in Wilton, Cork.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert clinical nursing care to patients with acute haematological conditions and blood cancers in the specialized oncology unit
- Lead and coordinate complex care plans for patients undergoing chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and blood transfusion protocols
- Mentor and support nursing staff in haematology oncology best practices and evidence-based cancer care
- Collaborate with consultant haematologists, medical teams, and allied health professionals to optimize patient outcomes
- Conduct comprehensive patient assessments and develop individualized care plans for hematological malignancies
- Facilitate patient and family education regarding blood cancer treatments, side effects, and supportive care measures
- Participate in clinical research initiatives and quality improvement projects within the haematology oncology department
Required Qualifications
Essential Requirements
- Current registration with NMBI (Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland)
- Minimum 5 years post-registration nursing experience with at least 2 years in haematology, oncology, or related specialty areas
- Relevant post-graduate qualification in oncology, haematology, or related specialty nursing field
- Demonstrated expertise in cancer care nursing and management of patients with blood disorders
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Nursing or related healthcare field
- Additional certification in chemotherapy administration or blood transfusion practices
- Previous experience in acute haematology oncology or blood cancer units
- Leadership experience in specialized nursing environments
