Sligo University Hospital is currently recruiting for a Clinical Nurse Specialist Candidate position in our Neurology Department, with a specialist focus on Multiple Sclerosis (MS) care. This full-time temporary position offers a competitive salary range of €56,081 – €66,045 and is classified as a specified purpose post. Key Responsibilities

As a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Multiple Sclerosis care, you will be responsible for:

Service Development & Expansion:

  • Develop and expand neurological services at Sligo University Hospital
  • Contribute to the strategic development of the Neurology Department
  • Implement evidence-based practice improvements

Patient Care & Clinical Expertise:

  • Provide expert specialist nursing services to patients with neurological conditions
  • Deliver comprehensive care to MS patients and their families in both inpatient and outpatient settings
  • Ensure timely and appropriate care through systematic assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation
  • Support patients and families in achieving treatment compliance and self-management strategies

Education & Training:

  • Develop and deliver evidence-based education programmes
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary team (MDT) members
  • Provide education to patients, families, carers, and the general public
  • Promote awareness of Multiple Sclerosis and neurological conditions

Patient-Centred Care:

  • Involve service users in care management and service development
  • Optimise patient wellbeing and independence
  • Provide emotional and practical support to patients and families

Requirements & Qualifications

Essential Requirements:

  • Registered General Nurse (RGN) with active NMBI registration
  • Post-registration experience in neurology or related healthcare field
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Fluent English language proficiency

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Postgraduate qualification in neurology or related field
  • Experience working with Multiple Sclerosis patients
  • Knowledge of Irish healthcare system and HSE policies
  • Experience in clinical education and training delivery
  • Research experience in neurological conditions
