About the Role
HSE Dublin and Midlands is inviting applications for a Clinical Nurse Specialist (Palliative Care) based at St Brigid’s Hospice, The Curragh, Co. Kildare.
This key role supports patients and families requiring specialist palliative care in both home and hospice settings. The successful candidate will deliver evidence-based nursing care, promote excellence in clinical practice, and work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team to enhance quality of life for those with life-limiting illnesses.
A panel may be formed from this campaign to fill current and future vacancies (permanent or specified purpose, full-time or part-time) within the HSE Dublin and Midlands region.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver specialist palliative care to patients across home and hospice settings.
- Provide expert nursing assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care.
- Support and educate patients, families, and staff on symptom management and end-of-life care.
- Act as a clinical resource for nursing and allied health professionals.
- Participate in audit, research, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
- Liaise effectively with GPs, community nurses, and specialist palliative care teams.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of clinical policies and standards.
Required Qualifications
Essential
- Be registered in the General Division of the Register of Nurses and Midwives maintained by the NMBI.
- Have at least 5 years’ post-registration experience, with 2 years in palliative care nursing.
- Hold or be undertaking a recognised post-graduate qualification in palliative care (Level 8 or higher).
- Demonstrate competence in leadership, communication, and patient advocacy.
- Possess a valid driver’s licence and access to transport for community visits.
Desirable
- Experience in community-based palliative care services.
- Evidence of participation in research, audit, or clinical innovation.
- Strong IT and documentation skills.
