HSE Mid West is recruiting for a Clinical Nurse Specialist to join our dedicated Stroke Unit at University Hospital Limerick. About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Clinical Nurse Specialist to provide expert nursing care within our Stroke Unit at University Hospital Limerick. This role involves delivering specialized stroke care, supporting multidisciplinary teams, and ensuring the highest standards of patient outcomes in stroke management and rehabilitation.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert clinical nursing care to patients with stroke and related neurological conditions within the Stroke Unit
- Lead and coordinate evidence-based stroke care protocols and pathways for optimal patient outcomes
- Mentor and support nursing staff in stroke-specific assessment, intervention, and rehabilitation techniques
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including neurologists, physiotherapists, and occupational therapists
- Implement and evaluate stroke care quality improvement initiatives and clinical audits
- Provide specialist education and training to staff, patients, and families on stroke prevention and management
- Maintain accurate documentation and contribute to stroke care research and development initiatives
Required Qualifications
Essential Requirements:
- Registration with NMBI (Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland)
- Post-registration nursing experience with a minimum of 5 years clinical experience
- Relevant post-graduate qualification in neurology, stroke care, or related specialty area
- Demonstrated expertise in stroke assessment, acute stroke management, and rehabilitation
- Strong leadership and mentoring skills with experience in clinical supervision
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in nursing or related healthcare field
- Additional certifications in stroke care, neurological assessment, or advanced life support
- Experience in quality improvement projects within stroke or neurological services
- Research experience in stroke care or neurological nursing
