Sligo University Hospital is recruiting a Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist with advanced expertise in ambulatory gynaecology and pelvic health. This permanent, full-time post offers an exceptional opportunity to lead specialist physiotherapy services, drive service development, and deliver high-quality, evidence-based care to patients with complex pelvic floor dysfunction across HSE West and North West.
Role Overview
The Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist in Ambulatory Gynaecology and Pelvic Health will operate at the forefront of specialist physiotherapy practice at Sligo University Hospital. The postholder will take a lead clinical role in triage and caseload management across gynaecology, pelvic health, continence, and complex pelvic floor dysfunction, combining direct patient care with service planning and professional leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a specialist triage caseload covering gynaecology, pelvic health, and continence presentations.
- Provide evidence-based assessment and treatment for patients with complex pelvic floor dysfunction, including internal assessment and treatment techniques.
- Plan, develop, deliver, and monitor new physiotherapy services within the hospital and wider health region.
- Demonstrate advanced clinical leadership and act as a resource for colleagues across the multidisciplinary team.
- Engage in and support relevant continuing professional development and post-graduate training activities.
- Contribute to audit, research, and quality improvement initiatives within the service.
Requirements
- CORU-registered Physiotherapist with substantial post-qualification experience in gynaecology and pelvic health physiotherapy.
- Demonstrated depth and experience in working with gynaecology and pelvic health caseloads, including a triage function.
- Evidence of relevant post-graduate training and CPD in the internal assessment and treatment of pelvic floor dysfunction.
- Proven ability to plan, develop, deliver, and monitor new services within a healthcare setting.
- Strong communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills appropriate to a specialist clinical leadership role.
Salary
€72,119 – €82,428 per annum (HSE Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist scale, 9-point scale, plus LSI of €83,689 where applicable), based on the HSE Consolidated Salary Scales effective 1 June 2026.
Location
Sligo University Hospital is the acute teaching hospital serving the north-west of Ireland and the primary acute site for HSE West and North West. The hospital provides a broad range of inpatient, outpatient, and emergency services to populations across Sligo, Leitrim, Donegal, and surrounding counties. The Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist will be embedded within a dynamic multidisciplinary environment, contributing to regional specialist service provision from this strategically important site.
