Mayo University Hospital is seeking an experienced Clinical Specialist Radiographer to join its Emergency Department imaging team in Castlebar, County Mayo. This specialist healthcare opportunity offers experienced radiographers the chance to contribute to high-quality emergency diagnostic imaging services within one of the leading acute hospitals in the HSE West and North West region.

The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering advanced radiography services within the Emergency Department, supporting rapid diagnosis, patient care pathways, and multidisciplinary clinical decision-making in a busy hospital environment.

Job Overview

This Clinical Specialist Radiographer position is a specified purpose wholetime role based at Mayo University Hospital. The role focuses on Emergency Department imaging services and requires a high level of clinical expertise, leadership capability, and experience in acute radiography practice.

The successful applicant will work closely with radiology, emergency medicine, and wider multidisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure timely, accurate, and patient-focused imaging services are delivered to emergency patients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver specialist radiography services within the Emergency Department setting
  • Perform high-quality diagnostic imaging procedures in accordance with best practice standards
  • Support emergency clinical teams with rapid and accurate imaging services
  • Maintain patient safety, radiation protection, and infection prevention standards
  • Contribute to service development, quality improvement, and clinical governance initiatives
  • Provide clinical leadership and support to radiography colleagues and students
  • Participate in multidisciplinary collaboration across acute hospital services
  • Ensure imaging equipment is used safely and effectively within departmental protocols

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Recognised qualification in Diagnostic Radiography
  • Registration with CORU as a Radiographer or eligibility for registration
  • Demonstrated depth and breadth of experience in Emergency Department imaging services
  • Strong clinical decision-making and patient care skills
  • Excellent communication and multidisciplinary teamwork abilities
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced acute hospital environment
  • Commitment to professional development and evidence-based practice
  • Previous specialist or advanced radiography experience is desirable

Salary, Benefits & Working Hours

Salary will be aligned with the HSE Clinical Specialist Radiographer Grade 3131 pay scale.
