Join the Health Service Executive (HSE) at University Hospital Limerick and lead high-quality renal dialysis care as a Clinical Nurse Manager 1 (CNM1). You’ll coordinate day-to-day dialysis operations, support a skilled multidisciplinary team, and champion evidence-based nursing practice that improves outcomes for patients with chronic and acute kidney disease.
About the Role – Renal Dialysis (CNM1)
As CNM1 for Renal Dialysis, you’ll ensure safe, efficient delivery of haemodialysis services, uphold infection-prevention best practice, and mentor staff in a fast-paced acute environment. You will be a visible clinical leader, balancing patient flow, rostering, and quality improvement while maintaining excellent communication with nephrology consultants, ADONs, and wider hospital teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate daily dialysis sessions, staffing, and patient flow to meet clinical demand.
- Maintain high standards of infection prevention and control, medication safety, and documentation.
- Provide clinical supervision, mentorship, and professional development support for nursing staff.
- Implement and audit care bundles, policies, and safety checklists; escalate risks appropriately.
- Collaborate with nephrology consultants, CNM2s, ADON, and allied health to deliver integrated care.
- Manage rosters, leave requests, stock levels (dialysers, consumables), and equipment readiness.
- Support incident review, patient feedback, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
Required Qualifications
Essential
- Active NMBI registration as an RGN (or eligible).
- Post-registration clinical experience in renal/haemodialysis or acute medical nursing.
- Proven leadership capability at Staff Nurse/Senior Staff Nurse level (or equivalent).
- Strong skills in delegation, communication, prioritisation, and multidisciplinary teamwork.
- Evidence of CPD and competence in IV therapy, anaphylaxis management, and basic life support.
Preferred
- Postgraduate qualification or CPD modules in Renal Nursing/Dialysis.
- Experience with haemodialysis machines, water-treatment systems, and dialysis safety checks.
- Audit, QI, or practice development experience (e.g., KPI reporting, incident learning).
- Preceptorship/mentorship training and experience supporting student and new-starter nurses.
