Job Overview

HSE West and North West is seeking a dedicated Consultant Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist to join our mental health services team in Sligo/Leitrim. This permanent, full-time position offers an excellent opportunity to make a meaningful impact on young people’s mental health across the beautiful counties of Sligo and Leitrim in Ireland.

As part of our comprehensive mental health services, you’ll work within a multidisciplinary team delivering specialist psychiatric care to children and adolescents throughout the region. Key Responsibilities

Clinical Duties

• Provide comprehensive psychiatric assessment and treatment for children and adolescents
• Develop and implement individualised treatment plans in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams
• Conduct risk assessments and manage complex mental health presentations
• Deliver crisis intervention services when required
• Supervise and mentor junior medical staff and trainees

Service Development

• Contribute to the development and improvement of child and adolescent mental health services in Sligo/Leitrim
• Participate in service planning and quality improvement initiatives
• Collaborate with community partners, schools, and other healthcare providers
• Engage in research and evidence-based practice development

Professional Development

• Maintain continuous professional development and stay current with best practices
• Participate in peer review and audit activities
• Contribute to teaching and training programmes
• Attend relevant conferences and professional meetings

Requirements & Qualifications

Essential Qualifications

• Full registration with the Medical Council of Ireland
• Inclusion on the Specialist Register in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry
• Completion of higher specialist training in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry
• Relevant postgraduate qualifications in psychiatry

Essential Experience

• Demonstrated clinical experience in child and adolescent psychiatry
• Experience working within multidisciplinary teams
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work independently and manage complex caseloads

Desirable Qualifications

• Experience in the Irish healthcare system
• Additional training in specific therapeutic modalities
• Research experience and publications in child and adolescent psychiatry
• Teaching and supervision experience
